A solar panel is not assembled in one factory in one day. It moves through several distinct stages, each requiring its own equipment, expertise and quality checks. Skip a step, or compromise on one, and the effect shows up years later on your electricity bill.
From Raw Silicon to Solar Cell
Every panel begins as raw material, refined through a precise chain:
- Polysilicon: purified silicon, the base material for every solar cell
- Ingot: silicon melted and grown into a solid cylindrical block
- Wafer: the ingot sliced into ultra thin discs
- Cell: the wafer treated and coated to actually convert sunlight into electricity
Any inconsistency at this stage, in purity, thickness or coating, limits how much power the finished panel can ever produce. This is decided long before assembly even begins.
From Cell to Module: Where Origin Really Counts
Cells are fragile on their own. Turning them into a rooftop ready module is where a manufacturer's real capability shows.
- Cell sorting and binning, to match cells of similar output for consistent performance
- Encapsulation, sealing cells between protective layers to block moisture
- Tempered glass, to withstand hail, heat and years of direct sun

- BIS certification: mandatory safety and performance testing
- IEC standards: international benchmarks for durability and output
- MNRE guidelines: govern how modules must be manufactured and tested in India

Before you finalise any solar quotation, ask your installer:
- Which factory manufactured this exact model, and where is it located
- Is this model on the current ALMM list
- Can you share the BIS and IEC certification documents
- What cell technology and binning process was used
A manufacturer confident in its own process will answer all four without hesitation.
